Echos from the blue...
Blue Sensation© is happy to witness the magical moment with the Belgian Red Devils, but also a moment of joy with the birth of Noé, niece of Evelien Peeters. She's so adorable and cute(watch below)! Wishing the parents good luck with this little mermaid and congratulations to Evi.
On the same day we had a PB to celebrate from our newcomer Filip Lasseel, touching Transfo's bottom at -15m. Let's see if he can make it in open water, his coach must have thought. Neither Filip nor Wouter would wait for this moment any longer and so they left for Antwerp this
morning to finish it all. Today we can congratulate Filip Lasseel for passing the 2* level AIDA with ease, good job Wouter Van Crombruggen with his first certification ;)
Thanks to An, from Universal Freedivers, for organizing this afterwork event attracting almost a dozen of brothaaas and sistaaas, hope to catch up with you soon, guys.
Thanks to Meister™ and Garmin™ for the supply of brand new equipements... don't miss our review on the Garmin MK1, coming soon.
Blue Sensation© would like to share two beautiful moments that actually happened last weekend. First we would like to congratulate
Amro Elmaghrabi, as he succeeded to pass the Belgian lifeguard and DHV (and DHR) exam in a single switch (yes, there still talents among us!). He resisted to lots of sweat and struggle to reach the right times (8x pool lengths below 4'30") and the unforgiving eye of a CPR instructor. But with lots perseverance and the right motivation he got A scores on the majority of the tests. Amro used to live with his familiy in Dahab (Egypt), working as a dive master in Sharm and freedive instructor. Amazingly his experience as a professional diver at one side and being a quiet personality with a positive vibe pushed him to progress fast, through this course to become a lifeguard A+. Good luck my friend!
Secondly, but no less important, new board members have entered the AIDA national body. A page is turned into this federation's history.
July 30th will hopefully change a lot for the Belgian freedive community. We are delighted that these people have taken over the tri colored torch to give AIDA Belgium a new chance to live and survive.
It's a pleasure to see there is still willingness to keep turning what we've created till now, together with the founding members back in 1999.
May the current lead the new board to great success...
Belgrade 2018 last updates
Day 1 of the Individual AIDA Pool World Championships in Belgrade, and the DNF results are officially online!
In the women ranking we have nothing but magical numbers, in fifth place a 153m DNF was performed by Karin Prins (NL), who participated in Zottegem ealier in 2016 and set a new national record(DNF 146m). We have a duo ticket in the same discipline for Kozerska (POL) and one for Mathiasen (DNK) both performing 161m. Top of the hill Magdalena Solich-Talanda (POL) walks away with the max points, putting the dart on 164m DNF, well done!
Ukraine is holding tight with numero uno from Kiev, Alexander Bubenchikov (UKR) with an amazing 200m. However, he seem to be passed by Goran Golak (CRO), performing 203m, but no one could beat the Polish rocket Mateusz Malina gliding 208m DNF.
The organizers are preparing a live streaming at the Milan Gale Muškatirović Sport Center for this world event. We're watching Uros Kojic and his staff, wishing them a good competition and to all athletes nothing but white cards. Be gentle judge Grant ;) and thanks to Rossi for the quick peek on the Champs status, day one!

A few months ago, Blue Sensation started the project x, with the intention of gaining insight into free divers, whose vision is a chronic problem. We would like to thank everyone who wanted to participate, either by completing the questionnaire, or by providing important information. This questionnaire has shown that... read more
Lessines jump in
Today, nothing but joy and happy faces came along the quarry of Cosyns, better known as Lessines.
It was good to meet a couple of old friends again and a few new comers,
ready to join the Universal Freedivers caravan. Basically we were three on the 4* AIDA course, but even on this cloudy Sunday morning, Felice was able to gather seven more freedivers.
Three buoys were installed, including one with the sled we had lots of fun.
With a surface temperature of about 19 degrees(but much colder below), we kept on repeating the FRC. It was good to see you An, Dieter, Vincent, Istvan, Felice, Tom and Cedric (missing 3 guys :P
Hope to see you soon again, keep yourself tuned with Blue Sensation© !
Tested: Garmin Descent MK1 soon...
Thanks to Garmin Belux, Blue Sensation© will be able to test the new Garmin Descent MK1 and come back with a review on a sports watch that might be a turning point in the evolution of sports watches. Let's check it out soon...
With the next subject I want to talk about an app that has been around for almost a year. For those who want to train dry statics, the STAmina trainer gets everything out of the cupboard a freediver needs.
With this app, developed by Valeriy Kovalenko, you can change any IOS and Android device into a personal trainer.
Many possibilities enable the user to adjust almost the entire app to his wishes. From generating exercises to changing alarms, etc.
The STAmina looks attractive and works with spoken instructions.
During the testing in training, our attention was mainly focused on the attractiveness of the app, but the screen did not flip from portrait to landscape and vice versa (neither with iPhone / iPad).
The spoken instructions are a plus, but under water you only hear the tune (s) not the voice. Also with the many extras within this application, STAmina scores a high score for us (we like (y)). Structure of the tables is clear, the recovery time is sometimes experienced as confusing.
In general STAmina looks very professional and we recommend it to everyone. Latest version is 126.96.36.199. So for those who lost track on this useful app, we'll post the link below once more for Apple and Android users. Enjoy and thanks to Valeriy ;)
On a nasty, rainy (Sun)day, hardly could see the road, the three of us were heading for Germany. Arriving at 1 pm at Siegburg... we ran a little late I must admit, sorry guys, but we finally had a splendid afternoon between the few scuba divers at Dive4Life. Meeting up with Doris's freediving class, Kimmo tried out a new underwater camera case, David and myself were having lots of fun in the shallows. Miraculous, which did not worked out for him before, David did a PB in CWT, almost touching the bottom floor, turning at -16m with lots of confidence (before -12m). Well done man!
Only with a simple adjustment, a dose of determination and the right fins, isn't it ;)
Thank you Doris for the technical support and Kimmo for the camera footage. Hope to see you too at our next dive...
Some of you might not have noticed yet, during one of the biggest freediving events in the Sinai two Belgians will compete during the RedCcup. First patriot, Inge Verbruggen, and national record holder (CWT -53m, FIM -46m, VWT -56m) is on for an attempt in FIM, with an AP to -48m. I can smell a new record from here ;) Second competitor is newcomer into the AIDA rankings, Bart Denys, also competing in the same discipline, aiming for -33m. During the first day, Inge broke her own record in FIM with -48m. The annoucement for tomorrow's comp day is -50m, let's cross our fingers. Good luck to Inge!
Keep in touch with Blue Sensation© for the latest news :)
Full of excitement we went to Zwevegem, to meet mermaid Evi and Pieter at 7pm. New faces behind the Transfo's bar and Marc himself kept an eye on our safety. We did a couple of duck dives, alignments to the rope and turns. First hour we shared the pool with four other French freedivers in an almost empty pool. Most people leave on Friday eve before Pentecost and so Blue Sens took advantage of it ;) Lot's of fun at Zwevegem duiktank again, congrats to Evelien who touched to bottom of the pool, yoohoo, good job! Our next stop will be at Dive4Life, on 27th of May. Be there!
A mermaid's message
With the mermaids gathering at Beringen, last weekend, our attention was attracted by the convention lecture on the conservation of oceans.
Everyone knowing the problem of roaming waste, but even more, the impact of microplatics on our environment.
Blue Sensation© had the opportunity to meet Simona Boschetti, a driven phd in marine biology, who explained the problem of the concentration of plastics and the damage to coral reefs, like the Great Barrier Reef, but
also the circulation of indigestible microplastic at great depths in our ocean. Therefor Blue Sensation© wants to come with a project, as it also directly affects our community, the blue generation.
Recently we're working on a conventional lecture at the end of this year.

Thanks Cedric, Kimmo and Bart for the stunning pictures
Neptunes Cup... the day after, we had something more to celebrate, indeed. For two of the Ukrainian team it was a first competition experience, however this team came back home with three medals and a cup.
One of them, Matsuka Aliaksandr, did a wonderful 2'33" and a 89m DYN, an honor for Belgium! The big effort came from Alena Udovenko.
Number 3 on the Ukraine female ranking DYN/ DNF and 4th place in STA, came to participate to our Belgian Freediving Cup doing very nice performances, with a 3'50", a 125m DYN and a 84m DNF.
But this company felt far more in love for the Ghent beer, cheese of Brugges and the view at Ostend beach, when touring around :)
For this occasion Blue Sensation© organized a special event to welcome our colleagues from Kiev. As you know, we joined forces with the Ukrainians at Transfo, tuesday night after the competition and finally jumped in with a lucky nine. With lots of joy and laughter, two hours passed away in no time.
Early next morning the boys left us to continue their travel, for Alena one more day was left in Belgium. What better could she join than a Wednesday evening static class at Zottegem pool?
I'm pretty sure now, Ukraine representative Alexander Bubenchikov and judge Denys Rylov, have a good reason to be proud about their freediving schools.
Thanks to Alena, Sasha and Misha for visiting our country, hope to see you soon again, guys ;)
Freediving Cup results into success
Good morning people, this is Blue Sensation with more news from the Zottegem event... the Neptunes Cup 2018, first edition.
My apologies for those who could not wait for this article to appear, finally here it is :)
Indeed, in no time the NC 2018 results were posted on social media!
This competition was an exciting breakdown of personal bests and yet with another national record! But first we need to thank lots of people who helped us to realize this moment. Many thanks goes to AIDA France, who parented our competition, without them it never could take place. Meister provided us all necessary stuff, FreeXperience supported our event with beautiful prices and the OK Diving School of Zottegem and the brotherhood of the DukDuvels diving club of Kortrijk joined forces, providing us enough men power to guarantee our safety . Without them and the support of our judges, they did a wonderful job. Others, who did a nice job were our athletes. Many new faces at first glance were registered at this Belgian event, but also more well known faces, such as Marc Verstappen and Jean Ploumhans have participated.
Furthermore, Erik De Jong defended the Dutch tricolor and Jamy Schumacher came to our pool as coach, for this time.
Jury of service, Wouter Van Crombruggen and Philippe Desitter, assisted by Marie and Kimmo, consulting the safety divers at first in a seperate gathering room. The NC 2018 finally started, once after a briefing was given to the athletes. The first athlete to break the ice was Muyshondt Linde. Remember Linde is Belgian's CNF record holder, aiming for a decent 3'10" STA. Second athlete, running off with the silver medal was An Meirsman, with a 4'19" personal best. But top of the notch, mounting the stages with the gold, was Alena Udovenko from Ukraine. Congrats ladies ;)
At the men's ranking we see the Netherlands taking silver, with a 6'02" STA and the proud conqueror, Jean Ploumhans with 7'01"! For this performance he got a special price, as the previous static performance of this competition series at Zottegem, was broken. The competition lasted for about four hours, with thé best performance that came from the Netherlands, Erik De Jong, with an bomb-a-stic 209m in DYN. Good for a new national record! Can it ever be broken?
Found out the results here after. Well done everyone, we hope to see you again on our next events... Oh, don't you worry, more pictures at Blue Sensation.org will appear soon, keep an eye on it, tiger !)
Bart's blog you need to know
Blue Sensation© is glad to present to you, one of most astonishing underwater photography, by Bart 'Hyper III' Holvoet.
Bart has a passion for the underwater world for about 18 years now.
We first met in the busy shopping malls of Hurghada, on our way to Safaga, back in 2010 (I guess...). Bart was very fanatic about his camera
and still, his pictures are becoming true sea life stories that attracts your imagination about the beauty underwater species we all need to protect.
Dive into Bart's blog and discover a different world. Don't forget to subscribe to his You Tube channel, you might surprised ;)
Happy Easter wishes...
Blue Sensation© wishes all of you and their families a cosy and happy Easter celebration! Yesterday we had the honor to make part of one of the UF activities. Due to holidays on the 1st of April, Universal Freedivers founder Felice Mastroleo came up with the brilliant idea to gather forces in Transfo and whoever wanted to participate. The water was just warm enough - for me it was the case ;) - to stay there for two hours and so did we. Alongside two lines, we explored the inside of the wonderful diving facility Transfo with 13.000 m³ of pure joy (-15m deep, wider than NEMO33). It was nice to meet you again An, Bert, Ariel, Felice and Magalie and hope to see you soon down there ;)
Psssst... don't forget to visit the EVENTS section in the upper menu and find the REGISTRATION FORM, if you like to participate to our Neptunes Cup!
Blue Sensation promos
Blue Sensation© received it's first parcel by airmail today, containing promotional stuff for all competitors (and crew members), visiting our pool Bevegemse Vijvers. Those who are registered at the Neptunes Cup, will be the first to receive one of these. Wanna know what? Move to the registration form and get your Blue Sens promotional item at the Zottegem registration desk, April the 15th ;)
Julie Gautier on big screen
Last Thursday, during the International Women's Day, a performance was made by means of a short film. Held on the 8th of March, this day was created in the sign of militancy and the sense of solidarity for women around the world, usually based on a specific theme.
Julie Gautier, known for her magnificent movie work such as Freefall and Ocean Gravity dedicated her recent project AMA for this occasion. For this event Happy Freediver Inside had the opportunity to organize a projection of the film at the Poseidon pool. Not less than 80 fanatics came to wonder the professionaly composed images, telling so much more than a thousand words.
"Ama" is a silent film. It tells a story everyone can interpret in their own way, based on their own experience. There is no imposition, only suggestions...
We had the occasion to have a small wifi chat and greet with Julie and Guillaume. Afterwards Dominique and Alexandre Van Win organized a pool training, written by Guillaume Néry himself.
It was a wonderful evening, great reunion with old friends and lots of fun. Thank you Dominique and Alexandre for sharing this moment with us :)
For those who weren't able to come to Brussels, find the link to Julie's film below.
