We are more than pleased to share with you this review on a watch that might be a turning point in the evolution of sports watches.
Thanks to Garmin Belux, Blue Sensation was able to test the Garmin Descent MK1™ and give some feedback on it.
The watch has been tested for multiple sports, in wet and dry conditions, testing it's ability to locate, the interface with a pc, in a few words
everything it was made for... well almost :P
The Descent MK1™ is a multi functional sports watch easy in use, once you know the menu's structure (or when you used Garmin products before).
The watch comes in two versions, the Gray and Silver Sapphire (with titanium or rubber band), packed in a nice box, including the usb interface,
a user manual and one extra rubber band.
For this review we used the Silver Sapphire, with a rubber band (ideal for nautic sports), with default settings.
Soon you will found out, the menu offers a wide range from running to swimming, hiking to diving, navigation to fitness, etc.
In our case we mainly used the Mk1 for freediving, jogging, GPS tracking and open water swimming with the HRM-Tri™ band (optional).
This heart rate monitor strap pairs easily with the watch and starts to measure your vital functions automatically.
When you used it once in freediving mode, you don't need to set it manually again. The triple green led sensor on the back of the case
switches automatically to the last mode, once wet.
One of the features we appreciated a lot, is the locator function. Once you have GPS connection, it can tell you where you are on a bright 1.2”
color display TOPO map. If you think getting lost with this watch, you probably kept the screen upside down ;)
Even when the watch has big digits on a huge display, the design looks elegant and amazing.
Okay, the watch is huge and robust, comes with large buttons, but not once during the test, we felt as a discomfort on the wrist.
After finishing the dive, it's easy peasy connecting the Mk1 with the usb interface on your pc, using the Garmin Express app.
With a simple click the device starts to synchronize all the collected data from your last dive right into a nice overview, featuring a location map.
The watch is waterproof up to 100m and keeps track of all your single-gas, multi-gas, gauge and freediving activities :O
Our first impression of the watch is very positive, however this eminent piece of technology comes with a considerable price, so we have to
come back with another post about the specs and other features.
Read more about this watch soon in part II...
If you're still looking for this one original Christmas present, get the Garmin Descent Mk1™, you won't regret it!
'Watch' out for now and dive safe ;)
Thanks to Garmin,
